Anagarika Dharmapala Anagarika Dharmapala was one of the greatest national heroes of Sri Lanka. He was born on September 17, 1864, in Colombo. His birth name was Don David Hewavitharana. From a young age, he showed a deep interest in Buddhism and religious activities. Dharmapala played a major role in the revival of Buddhism in Sri Lanka during a time when the country was under British colonial rule. He worked hard to protect and promote Buddhist values, culture, and education. He was greatly influenced by Colonel Henry Steel Olcott and Madam Blavatsky, who helped him in his religious journey. One of his most important achievements was his effort to restore the sacred Buddhist site in Bodh Gaya, India.
