Deforestation, overgrazing, improper farming methods, and construction work expose the soil and make it easier for it to be washed or blown away.

Soil erosion also leads to desertification, where fertile land becomes dry and barren. In addition, it can cause floods and landslides, which damage property and threaten human lives.

Farmers can use methods such as contour ploughing, terracing, and crop rotation to protect the soil. Avoiding deforestation and managing land carefully are also important steps in preventing soil erosion.
