Thuparamaya ❤️

Thuparamaya

Thuparamaya is one of the most important ancient Buddhist temples in Sri Lanka. It is located in Anuradhapura, which was the first capital of the country. Thuparamaya was built by King Devanampiyatissa in the 3rd century BC after the introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka.

Thuparamaya is very special because it is the first stupa built in Sri Lanka. It was constructed to enshrine the right collarbone relic of Lord Buddha. Therefore, it is a sacred place for Buddhists all over the world.

The stupa has a unique shape, which is known as a “bell-shaped” design. It is surrounded by stone pillars, which once supported a roof around the stupa. Even today, these pillars can be seen standing around it.

Thuparamaya is not only a religious place but also an important historical monument. It shows the ancient architecture and the devotion of the Sri Lankan people to Buddhism.

In conclusion, Thuparamaya is a symbol of Sri Lanka’s rich cultural and religious heritage. It is a place that every Buddhist respects and a site that attracts many visitors from around the world.
